Promotional Photography

In this blog post I will be discussing  the research I did for promotional photography. The magazine I will be creating will include a section dedicated to this type of photography.

For my research I went around Bethnal Green looking at billboard adverts on bus stops, buses etc. This was to research how these adverts reach out to the target audiences and the techniques they use to sell the product. Promotional photography consists of promoting a subject, product, event or just to raise awareness.

Here are a few case photos.

This is the first advert which I found on a bus stop. It is an advert by Coca Cola, one of the biggest food companies in the world, therefore they have a massive budget and are already very well known to the public. Because of this, their aim is not to capture the attention of people but to maintain the attention.
In this photo they are trying to advertise the drink using a free magazine. To attract people to this offer they have a photo of a very happy person reading the magazine on a summer day with a very summery dress to the left of the advert. The effect this photo has is to make the audience feel that they want to enjoy a nice summer day just like the woman in the photo. Plus the Cola bottle on the side will also make them feel that they would need a nice refreshing drink when they are relaxing.
Most promotional photography is edited heavily to make it look a lot more pleasing towards the audience. for example this advert is aimed more towards females.  They use softer colours, which make the darker drink stand out and glow a lot more.
